There was fog in many districts of Punjab on Thursday morning and strong winds further increased the chill. There will be no respite from cold in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Himachal. After the Western Disturbance has subsided, now dry cold is troubling people. According to the Meteorological Department, there is no hope of relief from the severe cold till January 13 i.e. Lohri.
Cold wave increased the chill
Yellow alert has also been issued regarding fog. Cold day conditions will persist due to cold wave. For the first time in the last 11 years in Punjab, the temperature is being recorded near 9-10 degrees for a long time. Due to dense fog, 4 flights were delayed at Amritsar airport. Along with this, 4 trains were also affected.
Maximum temperature reached 6.8 degrees below normal
The maximum temperature in Amritsar was recorded at 9.8 degrees on Wednesday, which was 6.8 degrees below normal. Whereas, 12.2 degrees were recorded in Ludhiana, 12.6 degrees in Patiala, 12.2 degrees in Pathankot, 11.0 degrees in Faridkot, 10.1 degrees in SBS Nagar. On the other hand, the minimum temperature of Punjab recorded a drop of 0.8 degrees, but it remained 1.6 degrees above normal.The minimum temperature in Patiala was 6.2 degrees, Ludhiana was 6.1 degrees, Amritsar was 6.6 degrees and Pathankot was 7.6 degrees. Faridkot recorded 6.0 degrees, SBS Nagar 5.7, Faridkot 8.1 degrees.
Fog and cold in Haryana
Fatehabad was the coldest in Haryana. The minimum temperature in Fatehabad was 5.4 degrees Celsius, while in Bathinda the minimum temperature was 5.7 degrees Celsius. Karnal was the coldest at 6 degrees Celsius.
No respite from dry winter till Jan20 in Jammu and Kashmir
Cold has further increased amid dry season in Jammu and Kashmir. Amidst the cold wave, people are not expected to get relief from dry winter till January 20. Along with this, according to the Meteorological Department, due to western disturbance on January 17, there may be light snowfall in the mountainous areas.
