Taj Mahal to be renamed
BJP councilor in Agra Municipal Corporation has proposed to rename Taj Mahal as Tejo Mahalaya. This has again sparked debate as to what is the truth of Taj? Questions have been raised earlier also regarding the construction of this World Heritage Monument. The construction of Taj Mahal started in 1632, which was completed in 20 years. Its repairs started soon after in the year 1652. The first account of the conservation work done in the Taj Mahal building is Aurangzeb's letter, which was written to Emperor Shahjahan in the year 1652. Based on the same letter, Taj Mahal is said to be the palace of King Paramardidev.
Dr. D. Dayalan, former director of the Archaeological Survey of India, has written in his book Taj Mahal and its Conservation that Aurangzeb reached the garden of Jahanara on 4 December 1652, the third day of Muharram. The next day they saw the shining tomb. At the same time, Aurangzeb wrote a letter to Shahjahan and told him that the foundation of the building is strong, but water is dripping from the dome.
Aurangzeb had written in the letter, 'The four small umbrellas and domes of the Taj Mahal are leaking in the rain. Rain water is coming out from two to three places on the marble dome. It has been repaired. Let's see what happens in the next rain. On the basis of this letter, the mystery deepened that if the Taj was built in 1652, then how did the dome leak so soon? Its mystery remains intact even today.
Historian PN Oak has made many claims about the Taj Mahal in his book 'True Story of Taj'. His book claims that the Taj Mahal was actually Tejo Mahalaya. Earlier there was a Shiva temple here. He mentioned many of its facts. Although his facts were never recognized by the court
Taking the claim of historian PN Oak as the basis, people who call Taj Mahal a temple have also demanded opening of the basement of the monument and investigation. In May 2022, a petition was filed in the Lucknow bench of the High Court, in which the BJP leader had demanded opening of 22 closed rooms of the basement. This petition was rejected by the court
