Sealdah court has convicted the main accused Sanjay Roy in the case of rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. The court will now announce the sentence on Monday. The court has given this verdict after 162 days. CBI has demanded death penalty against the accused in the court.
The trainee doctor was raped on 8 August
The trainee doctor was first raped on the night of 8 August in Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital. Then she was murdered. The doctor's body was recovered from the seminar hall. After which, on the basis of CCTV footage, the police arrested a person named Sanjay Roy.
The victim's family demanded a reinvestigation
The trainee doctor's parents expressed dissatisfaction over the CBI investigation. They have also filed a petition in the Supreme Court and Calcutta High Court, which are monitoring the case. They have appealed that the Sealdah Special Court should be stopped from pronouncing the sentence in this case and the entire case should be investigated afresh once again.
