7 trainee doctors are on hunger strike in Kolkata over the rape-murder case of a trainee doctor. One of these junior doctors' health deteriorated late Thursday night. Giving information, senior doctor Subarna Goswami said that Aniket Mahato's pulse rate decreased, due to which his condition worsened.
At present, Aniket has been admitted to RG Kar Hospital. Aniket has been involved in the protest going on for the last 2 months to get justice for junior doctors.
50 senior doctors resigned from their posts
At the same time, about 50 senior doctors of Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital have resigned from their posts. These doctors have taken this step to express solidarity with the junior doctors. Junior doctors in Kolkata have been on hunger strike since the evening of October 5. They are adamant on 9 demands including the removal of Health Secretary NS Nigam.
On the other hand, the Bengal government has said that the government is fulfilling all its promises. Mamata government has appealed to the doctors to end the hunger strike. Let us tell you that the doctors had earlier put forward 5 demands, out of which the government fulfilled 3. The junior doctors went on strike from 10 August to 21 September against the rape-murder incident. Also, CM Mamata had assured to consider two other demands and conditions.
After this, the doctors ended the strike and returned to work in the hospitals. But again on 27 September, a case of beating of 3 doctors and 3 nurses came to light in Sagar Dutta Hospital, due to which the doctors got angry and started the strike again on 1 October.
24-hour ultimatum was given
On October 4, the junior doctors withdrew the strike, but continued the protest. They said that we are returning to work because a large number of patients are getting troubled in government hospitals. However, they gave a 24-hour ultimatum to the state government. After this, they started a hunger strike again. In which Aniket's health deteriorated.
