The notification for the elections of five municipal corporations and 43 municipal councils will be issued by the Punjab government before November 25. This information has been given by the Punjab government during the hearing in the Punjab and Haryana High Court today (on November 21). Along with this, a copy of the Supreme Court's decision was also submitted to the court. After this, the court has disposed of this petition.
Let us tell you that the Punjab and Haryana High Court was angry with the delay being done by the Punjab government in conducting municipal corporation and municipal council elections in the state. The High Court had issued a contempt notice to the Punjab government and ordered it to issue a notification regarding the municipal corporation and municipal council elections within 10 days.
After this, the government had knocked the door of the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has given eight weeks instead of two to the Punjab government to conduct the municipal elections. The Punjab government had appealed to the Supreme Court against the High Court's order to conduct municipal corporation and municipal council elections. The Supreme Court has also clearly said that the election process should be completed within eight weeks. Now the government has filed a reply to the contempt petition in the High Court. In the reply, it has been said that the matter has gone to the Supreme Court. The government will issue the notification for the elections by November 25. The government showed the copy of the Supreme Court order in this regard to the court. After this, the High Court disposed of the petition.
