The matter had reached the Supreme Court
A long battle was fought over the elections of 5 municipal corporations and 43 municipal councils in Punjab. This battle went from the Punjab and Haryana High Court to the Supreme Court. On November 11, the Supreme Court had asked the Punjab government to conduct elections in a total of 10 weeks in this matter. The apex court had ordered to issue the election notification in 15 days and complete the election process in the next 8 weeks.
Orders were given to issue notification
The order given by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on November 6 was challenged in the Supreme Court by the state government. In that order, the High Court had issued a notice of contempt to the Punjab government and ordered to issue the election notification in 10 days.
It was also said that if he does not do so, he will be fined Rs 50,000 and a contempt case will be filed against him. On November 21, the government told the High Court that the election notification will be issued by November 25. After this, the High Court disposed of the case.
