A 32-year-old Indian national was shot dead during a robbery at a store in the US state of Texas. The deceased has been identified as Dasari Gopikrishna. The deceased was a resident of Bapatla district of Andhra Pradesh. He came to America only eight months ago. The incident occurred on June 21 at a store in Pleasant Grove, Dallas.Consul General D.C. Manjunath, who was in Dallas for the Yoga Day event on Sunday, told PTI that the incident is not related to the shooting in Arkansas, as was earlier reported by various sources.
Expressing condolences to Gopikrishna's family, Manjunath said that we are deeply saddened to learn about the death of Indian national Dasari Gopikrishna in an incident of firing during a robbery in Pleasant Grove, Dallas, Texas and are in touch with his family members. The Consulate in collaboration with Indian organisations is providing all possible assistance to repatriate Gopikrishna's body to India after local formalities including post-mortem and death certificate.
Serious injuries were sustained during the attack
Gopikrishna suffered serious injuries during the robbery and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died during treatment on Sunday morning. Gopikrishna is survived by his wife and son. The Indian community living in Dallas and surrounding areas is heartbroken by this incident.Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has expressed condolences on the death of Gopikrishna and has also assured all possible help to the victim's family. While sharing a post on social media, he has written that the state government will provide all possible assistance in bringing the mortal remains of Gopikrishna back home. The Indian Embassy in Houston has also expressed grief over the incident.
