Uttarakhand is facing waterlogging, landslides and road blockages across the state amid red alert for heavy rains. On Wednesday, about 125 roads were blocked and many rivers in Uttarakhand were flowing above the danger mark. IMD has issued a red alert of heavy rain in all the districts of the state.
125 roads including 9 state and national highways blocked
According to reports, around 125 roads were blocked in the state due to rain on Wednesday. While the State Public Works Department (PWD) has tried to open 87 roads today and 63 roads are still yet to be opened. All these roads are in Pauri, Dehradun, Pithoragarh, Champawat, Almora and Nainital districts.
Landslide on Badrinath, Yamunotri and Adi Kailash Highway
The national highway leading to Chardham temples is also blocked due to landslides amid continuous rains. Badrinath National Highway has been blocked due to landslide debris in Pagal Nalla near Lambagad. Yamunotri Highway, near Dabarkot also faced a landslide which blocked the road. Apart from this, Dharchula and Tawa Ghat National Highway was also blocked when a large part of the mountains collapsed near Rongti Nala on Wednesday.
Orange alert for Dehradun, Pauri, Tehri and Haridwar
The Uttarakhand Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for several districts of the state, including Champawat, Almora, Pithoragarh and Udham Singh Nagar as well as most of the Kumaon region. Also, orange alert has been issued for Dehradun, Pauri, Tehri and Haridwar.
Rivers are flowing above the danger mark
After heavy rains, rivers in Uttarakhand are flowing above the danger mark. Ganga and Saryu are flowing just a few meters below the danger mark, while Ganga's tributaries Alaknanda, Mandakini and Bhagirathi rivers have crossed the danger mark. The water level of Gomti, Kali, Gauri and Sharda rivers is also rising.
