Punjab is facing water crisis. The rivers of Punjab have also reached dry shores. The water in the dam is continuously decreasing. On one hand, this will increase the water crisis and on the other hand, the production of electricity will also decrease. The latest warning of Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) is worrying. It has been clearly stated that the water in the dams is 10 to 15 percent less.
If there is no rain, there will be problem of water and electricity
Actually, BBMB has warned to be cautious about the availability of water due to less rainfall in the area after monsoon and ice formation in areas with big dams. Board officials say that if there is not much rain in the winter season, then other states including Punjab and Haryana may have to face water and electricity crisis in summer.
Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and Rajasthan are member states of BBMB, which draw water from Bhakra and Pong Dam. The water level at the Bhakra dam on the Sutlej in Himachal Pradesh was recorded at 1,633 feet on November 20, which is about 15 feet lower than last year's level.
The water level at the Beas and Pong dams was 1,343 feet, which is about 18 feet lower than last year's level. "The water level means that the current storage at Bhakra is about 63 per cent of its total capacity, which is 10 per cent less than normal, while the storage at Pong is 50 per cent, which is 15 per cent less than normal," the official said.
