We get worried after eating 2 to 3 eggs that our cholesterol level might increase. But a medical student experimented on this and ate 720 eggs in a month. When he checked the result after a month, his bad cholesterol had decreased.
Nick Norwitz, a doctoral student at Harvard University, ate 24 eggs every day for a month to conduct an experiment. To see its effect on his body, he ate 720 eggs in a month. Then the shocking results came out which surprised people.
Actually, experts believe that eating too many eggs has a bad effect on health. Cholesterol levels increase in people who eat eggs daily and due to this many types of heart related problems start occurring. Nick proved this belief wrong by eating 720 eggs in a month to find out the effect of eating eggs daily on the body.
Who is Nick Norwitz?
Dr Norwitz has a PhD in human brain development from the University of Oxford. He uploaded the results of his experiment on YouTube and his video has been viewed more than 170,000 times.
In this video, he told about his diet plan. He also showed 40 cardboard egg boxes in his room which he had eaten in a month.
Why he did this experiment
Dr. Norwitz says, I knew that if I ate an egg every hour every day for a month, my low-density lipoprotein (LDL) i.e. bad cholesterol would decrease. To find out, he did this food experiment.
Used to take 60 grams of carbs every day
In his video, he did not reveal what else he ate every day besides eggs or what his daily exercise routine was. But he did reveal that after the first two weeks, he consumed 60 grams of carbohydrates every day which was equivalent to two bananas and 21 ounces of blueberries.
Bad cholesterol (LDL) decreased instead of increasing
Dr. Norwitz said that about 133,200 milligrams of cholesterol is found in 720 eggs. But even after eating so many eggs, my cholesterol did not increase.
He said that the amount of cholesterol in my diet increased five times but my LDL cholesterol decreased instead of increasing.
Scientists had warned
Many scientists and doctors have warned that eating too many eggs increases LDL levels and causes health problems. In fact, cholesterol gets deposited in the arteries as plaque which causes heart diseases and stroke.
But Dr. Norwitz found in his experiment that after eating 720 eggs for a month, his LDL level decreased by 18 percent.
How was this possible
Some scientists believe this may be due to the release of a hormone called colchicine, which is caused by cholesterol binding to receptors on intestinal cells.
This signals the liver to make less LDL. In the comments section of the video, people have praised Dr. Norwitz a lot for his study.
