Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu has approached the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to stop illegal mining in Punjab. He has filed a petition in this matter and made the Punjab Government a party. He has asked the NGT to identify the officers responsible for illegal mining and take action against them and stop illegal mining. The case will be heard on Monday.
Navjot Singh Sidhu himself has given information about filing the case through his social media account. He told that illegal mining is taking place on a large scale in the area. A large number of crushers are running. Apart from this, machinery is being used in mining. Because of this, there is a danger of the river bed changing. At the same time, there is a danger of flood. Apart from this, the environment is being adversely affected.
The matter also reached the High Court
Sidhu has said in the petition that the issue of illegal mining had also reached Punjab and Haryana. During that time also it had come to light that illegal mining work was being done in Ropar, Punjab. The police along with the district administration are trying to save the culprits behind these acts. At the same time, the standards related to illegal mining are not being followed. During this time the officials there were also summoned.
