Policemen were attacked with rockets in Pakistan's Punjab province on Thursday, killing at least 11 soldiers and injuring many. Earlier, gunmen opened fire on a school van, killing two children. Seven others were injured. This incident took place in Dheri Kot area of Attock district, about 400 km from Lahore.
11 policemen died in the attack
The attack on the policemen occurred when two police vans got stuck in mud at Macha Point in Rahim Yar Khan district, about 400 km from Lahore. A Punjab Police spokesperson said that 11 policemen were killed on the spot in the attack, while some of them were taken hostage and the rest were injured. The death toll may increase as the condition of some of the injured is critical.
President, Prime Minister condemned the attack
President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack and expressed grief, calling the slain officers martyrs. The police were ordered to take immediate action against the attackers and Sharif directed to provide best medical treatment to the injured officers.
