Reliance Jio has requested the Central Government to make a policy to shut down 2G and 3G networks. In the feedback on the consultation paper Digital Transformation through 5G Ecosystem published by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the company has suggested the users of these networks to shift to 4G and 5G networks.
Policy for obstacles in the development of 5G
Another telecom company Vodafone Idea has also made a similar suggestion. It says that such disruptions are leading to digital divide and impacting the 5G ecosystem. TRAI should bring a policy to overcome obstacles in the development of ecosystem for 5G. With this, unnecessary costs on the network can be avoided and all customers can be shifted to 4G and 5G services.
Airtel and Reliance Jio are providing 5G services
Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio are providing 5G services to their customers. These companies have more than 12.5 crore subscribers for this service. However, Airtel and Reliance Jio are offering 5G connectivity at the current rates of 4G. This includes unlimited 5G data. Experts believe that these companies may soon stop their unlimited 5G plans and the plan charges for this service may increase.
5G plans may be 5 to 10 percent more expensive
Both these telecom companies have been providing 5G services at 4G rates with unlimited data plans for almost a year. The reason for this is to encourage existing subscribers to upgrade to 5G. Analysts estimate that this situation may change soon as these companies are preparing to increase their revenue with the increase in the number of subscribers. 5G plans of these companies can be 5-10 percent costlier than 4G.
