Due to the activation of Western Disturbance in North India, there has been snowfall in the hilly areas and rain in the plains for the last 36 hours. According to the Meteorological Department, this time the 13 year old record of cold in January has been broken in Haryana. This time the month of January has been recorded as the coldest.
Rain in 11 districts of Punjab
The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for rain in Punjab today. There will be rain with thunder in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Patiala and Malerkotla in Punjab. Along with this, the department has issued yellow alert in all other districts.
Alert in 7 districts of Haryana
Similarly, the Meteorological Department has issued orange alert of rain in Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Karnal, Sonipat, Jind and Panipat of Haryana. Orange alert of dense fog has been given in Sirsa and Fatehabad. While the rest of the state is on yellow alert.
130 roads closed due to snowfall in Himachal
Due to heavy snowfall of the season in Himachal Pradesh, about 130 roads including 4 National Highways in the upper areas have been closed. Not only this, the electricity system in the upper areas of Himachal Pradesh has also come to a standstill. Along with this, about 395 transformers have stopped working here.
There is a possibility of snowfall in the lower areas of Himachal today also. According to the Meteorological Department, the second Western Disturbance will become active from February 3.
In Himachal today, orange alert has been issued for heavy rain and snowfall in Chamba, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Kangra, Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur and Sirmaur.
