As part of the campaign launched by the Punjab government against bribery, the Vigilance Department today arrested the in-charge of Bullowal police station and ASI. According to information, Vigilance caught SHO Raman Kumar and ASI posted at a police station in Hoshiarpur district red-handed while accepting a bribe of about Rs 1.5 lakh.
Bribe of Rs 1,50,000 was demanded
Vigilance Bureau spokesperson said that these arrests have been made after investigating an online complaint lodged by a resident of Asalpur village in Hoshiarpur district. The complainant alleged that an FIR was registered against his nephew in the said police station under the NDPS Act and the said policemen were threatening to implicate his son in this case under section 29 of the NDPS Act. According to the complaint, the said ASI had demanded a bribe of Rs 1,50,000 from the SHO in exchange for removing his son from the case, but later the bribe amount was reduced to Rs 1 lakh.
Case registered against both
Meanwhile, the complainant recorded the conversation between the two police personnel demanding bribe and handed over the audio to the Vigilance Bureau. At present, a case has been registered against both the accused at Jalandhar Range Police Station. Both the policemen, SHO Raman Kumar and ASI Gurdeep Singh, have been arrested.
