Now you will not have to wait long for health insurance claim settlement. The government has created a platform through which the process of insurance claims will not only be faster but the entire process will also be made transparent. NHCX has been developed by the National Health Authority in collaboration with IRDAI.
NHCX has been developed
Now you will not have to wait long to get a health insurance claim. At least 33 big companies providing health insurance services have joined the National Health Claims Exchange (NHCX). This is a platform created by the government to exchange information related to insurance claims. Till now this work was done through many different platforms which was very time consuming.Government sources say that the use of NHCX will not only speed up the process of insurance claims but will also make the entire process transparent. With this, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), the country's apex insurance regulatory body, will have real-time information about the status of claims settlement.
Check Claim status from mobile
A top official of the National Health Authority (NHA) said that common people will also be able to check the status of their insurance claims through mobile. NHA itself has developed this central platform. He said that some companies have started settling claims through NHCX on a trial basis and soon the platform will be launched officially with all the features. Recently, health insurance industry leader HDFC Ergo has settled its first claim through NHCX. NHA has developed NHCX in collaboration with IRDAI.
What will be the change
Sources said that the objective of NHCX is not to regulate the business at present, but the data obtained from this digital platform can be used in future to develop systems that can be added to the platform so that claims are rejected on unfair grounds. Such errors can be prevented. Currently, patients going to the hospital for treatment show their insurance policy details or a card issued by the Third Party Administrator (TPA) or the insurance company. The hospital then visits the claim processing portal of the respective insurance companies and uploads the required documents for the pre-approval or claim approval process.
Will be helping alot of patients
On receipt of the pre-approval/claim form, the insurance company/Third Party Administrator (TPA) authenticates and digitises the form using its internal claim processing portal. Then the claims are decided by the concerned team. A senior doctor said that often, patients have to wait for days for the process to be completed,Due to which there is delay in getting discharged from the hospital and additional room rent has to be paid. With NHCX, they will be able to monitor the progress of their claims settlement themselves. This is a matter of great relief.
