India gave a shock to China in iPhone manufacturing: Apple has increased iPhone exports from India. In the last 6 months, the company has increased exports by 30 percent. Actually, the company is expanding its manufacturing in India. At the same time, Apple is also reducing its dependence on China. Due to this, the export of iPhones made in India is increasing all over the world. The giant American company has exported Made in India iPhones worth about $ 6 billion (about Rs 50,451 crore) from India. These figures are till September 2024. The company has so far exported 30 percent more iPhones made in India than last year.
Three companies do manufacturing
According to a Bloomberg report, three of Apple's suppliers - Foxconn Technology Group, Pegatron Corp and Tata Electronics - are expanding through their assembly operations in India. About half of the iPhones exported from India are manufactured at Foxconn's Chennai facility.
India's export landscape also changed
Tata Electronics, which acquired Wistron Corp's factory last year, exported $1.7 billion worth of iPhones from its Karnataka plant between April and September. India's export landscape has also changed due to the increase in iPhone production.
Smartphone exports reach top
Smartphones have reached the top among the things exported from India to the US. The company has exported smartphones worth $2.88 in the last 5 months. Whereas five years ago, smartphone exports from India to the US were only $52 million. A lot has changed since Apple started manufacturing.
Benefit of technological capabilities
Apple assembled iPhones worth $14 billion in India in FY 2024, double the previous year. The company has taken advantage of local subsidies, skilled workforce and better technological capabilities, making India an important manufacturing hub.
Assembly of non-Pro and older models
Initially, the company was assembling only non-Pro and older models in India. However, now the company has also started manufacturing Pro models here. The company has started manufacturing iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. If reports are to be believed, the company is considering starting the production of AirPods in India.
