The Punjab Government has declared a government holiday in the state on 16th November. Punjab government has also issued a notification in this regard. In this notification it is said that keeping in mind the martyrdom day of Martyr Kartar Singh Sarabha ji, 16-11-2023 has been declared a government holiday in Punjab.
Who was Kartar Singh Sarabha
Kartar Singh Sarabha was born on May 24, 1896 in Sarabha village of Ludhiana, Punjab. The first few years of Sarabha's childhood were spent in the village, her father died when she was 8 years old, after which his grandfather nurtured him and raised him.
Membership of Gadar Party
Sarabha had changed her thinking and purpose of living at the age of 17. At the age of 17, he took membership of Gadar Party. He was also the editor of Gadar magazine, through his articles and poems he worked to connect the youth with the revolution.
Hanged at the age of 19
On 16 November 1915, the British government hanged him along with Bakshis Singh, Jagat Singh, Vishnu Ganesh Pingle, Harnam Singh and Suren Singh in connection with a major revolutionary plan in India. At that time he was only 19 years old.
