In the last few months, different variants of bird flu have emerged. Cases of bird flu have been found in many countries including America, China and India. It is reported that a case of infection with H9N2 bird flu virus has been found in a four-year-old child in West Bengal, India. This has been confirmed by the World Health Organisation (WHO). The case was identified on June 11.
This is the second case of this bird flu virus in India. Earlier, the first case was reported in the year 2019. This virus can spread from birds to humans but is not considered very dangerous. Officials are investigating all the people who came in contact with this child.
These symptoms of H9N2 seen in the child
The child was admitted to the paediatric ICU of the local hospital in February due to severe breathing problems, high fever and abdominal pain. The report states that the child was discharged from the hospital after three months of treatment.
How did the infection occur and the people who came in contact?
WHO said that the child had come in contact with chickens in and around the house. The report further said that no symptoms of respiratory illness were seen among the family members and others.
Eggs and chickens are being destroyed
In many countries, eggs and chickens are being destroyed to prevent the spread of bird influenza viruses. It was taken after the other deadly strain of this virus, H7N3 strain, was found.
