Pollution in Delhi has remained at a very dangerous level for the last few days. On Monday morning, the average AQI was recorded at 481. AQI 495 was recorded in Ashok Vihar and Bawana areas. The AQI level in Gurugram reached 576. Due to which, strict restrictions are being implemented in the National Capital Region under GRAP-4 from today to deal with air pollution.
Due to increasing pollution, the fourth phase of the changed Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) has been implemented in Delhi-NCR from 8 am today. Along with this, online classes of schools up to 9th have been asked to be conducted. Masks have been made mandatory for children of 10th-12th.
At the same time, an order has been issued to close primary schools in 5 districts of Haryana. GRAP-4 restrictions have also been implemented in 14 districts.
GRAP is imposed when AQI crosses 400
To check the level of air pollution, it has been divided into 4 categories. This is called Graded Response Action Plan i.e. GRAP. Under its 4 categories, the government imposes restrictions and issues measures to reduce pollution.
GRAP-1: Bad (AQI 201-300)
GRAP-2: Very bad (AQI 301-400)
GRAP-3: Severe (AQI 401 to 450)
GRAP-4: Very severe (AQI more than 450)
With the implementation of GRAP-4, many restrictions have been imposed. Along with this, children, elderly, respiratory and heart patients, people suffering from chronic diseases have been advised to stay indoors.
GRAP-4.. What are the restrictions?
After the implementation of GRAP-4, trucks, loaders and other heavy vehicles are not allowed to enter Delhi. However, vehicles supplying essential materials are allowed entry.
All types of construction and demolition work are banned
The state government also decides on online classes for school students and work from home for government and private offices.The odd-even decision can also be taken in the fourth phase, although it is not necessary.
Under GRAP Stage 4, diesel-powered medium, heavy goods vehicles (BS-IV or less) registered in Delhi are banned, but vehicles carrying essential goods will be exempted.
Offices located in Delhi-NCR have been advised to work with 50 percent capacity, the remaining employees will have to work from home i.e. work from home.
