There is hope of starting flights from Adampur Airport of Jalandhar soon. Under the Central Government's UDAN scheme, the first flight took off from Adampur Airport to Delhi on 1 May 2018. No flights have flown from Adampur airport for the last 2 years. Because the main gate and terminal of the airport were being prepared.
MP Sushil Kumar Rinku has raised the issue of the airport with Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia. Currently, flights used to fly from Adampur Airport only to Delhi, Jaipur and Mumbai. Which is going to start again now. After the opening of the airport, direct flights to Bangalore, Goa, Kolkata, Nanded and Hindon are expected to start.
Airport terminal made like the dome of Gurudwara Singh Sabha of Model Town
The dome of Adampur Airport terminal, built at a cost of Rs 125 crore, has been built like the dome of Gurdwara Singh Sabha of Model Town. In this, greenery, fountains and paintings depicting Punjabi culture have also been prepared. In 6 thousand square meters, there are 2 air buses to handle aircraft, parking space for around 300 vehicles and 300 PPH. Conveyor belt, security room, medical room and administration complex have been built in the building for the luggage of passengers.
Adampur airport will start in February 2024
Regarding the issue of Adampur Airport, MP Sushil Rinku has demanded from Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia that the airport should be made operational soon. Doaba belt will benefit greatly from this. MP Rinku said that the airport will be made operational in February 2024 under any circumstances. The airport terminal here has been built with ultra-modern facilities at a cost of Rs 125 crore and is ready to host passengers with a peak hour capacity of 300 passengers per day.
NRIs and industrialists benefit more
After the opening of Adampur Airport, the general public will benefit from it. NRIs and industrialists will benefit the most. Doaba region has the highest number of NRIs. Traveling from Delhi to Adampur will be comfortable and time will also be saved. After the opening of the airport, lakhs of people will get business.
Road work has also been completed
Public Works Department SDO Vishal Jangraal said that the roads on both sides leading to Adampur Airport are completely ready. Lights and sign boards are yet to be installed on this route. Whose work will also start this week.
