Punjab Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh has announced a ban on energy drinks in schools and colleges across the state soon. The move is aimed at promoting healthy eating habits among the youth as well as eliminating lifestyle disorders. The ban will also stop the sale of energy drinks within 500 metres of schools and colleges.
To ensure this, health teams will regularly inspect canteens. Shopkeepers have also been urged not to display advertisements of energy drinks. He encouraged canteens to provide healthier alternatives like lassi, nimbu paani, fresh juices and millet-based products in place of energy drinks.
