To curb the ever-increasing pollution in the national capital Delhi and NCR, the implementation of Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP-3) has been announced on Thursday. The Delhi government has taken this decision due to the increasing number of respiratory patients in Delhi-NCR, which has become a gas chamber due to the Air Quality Index (AQI) crossing 450, and the delay in the operation of flights and trains due to smog. Now keeping in mind the health of the children, Chief Minister Atishi (CM Atishi) announced on Thursday that due to the increasing level of pollution, it has been decided to keep all the primary schools of Delhi closed till further orders. Also, classes can now be conducted online. Atishi also holds the education department.
Why and when is GRAP 3 implemented
Let us tell you that GRAP has a total of four stages, which implement increasingly strict measures according to moderate to severe pollution levels. GRAP 3 (Graded Response Action Plan - Stage III) is an air pollution control protocol, which is implemented during a serious deterioration in air quality in the Delhi-NCR region.
In Stage III, special restrictions are implemented when the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaches the 'severe' category (AQI 401-450). These restrictions are imposed by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to reduce air pollution levels and protect public health.
These things will be banned in GRAP 3
Ban on construction and demolition: From November 15, non-essential construction and demolition work will be stopped in Delhi-NCR. However, work related to health, national security, metro, railways, and other important projects will continue.
Ban on old vehicles: You will not be able to drive vehicles with BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel engines on the road. If caught doing so, you may have to face a fine and punishment.
Control on industrial activities: After the implementation of GRAP-3, some polluting industries are instructed to remain closed, while essential industries are allowed to operate.
Burning of garbage is prohibited: There will be a ban on burning garbage and other materials, so that the spread of pollution from smoke can be prevented.
Ban on mining: When GRAP-3 is implemented, mining related activities are banned. Also, water is sprinkled on major roads every day.
Instructions for the public: People are advised to leave the house only when necessary, as well as to use public transport instead of private vehicles and cooperate in reducing pollution.
