The Transport Minister said in the Rajya Sabha that the average collection from toll booths earns Rs 49 thousand crore every day. He said that 98.5 percent people have used the Fast Tag system and 8.13 crore Fast Tags have been issued. Under this, the average collection of road tax is Rs 170 to 200 crore every day.
In response to a question related to Build, Operate and Hand Over (BOT) projects, Gadkari said that when he took over as the Transport Minister, 406 projects worth Rs 3 lakh 85 thousand crore were lying closed and Rs 3 lakh crore were lying in the banks. There were NPA (non performing assets).
Build, Operate and Deliver (BOT) projects are a commonly used model in public-private partnerships. Gadkari said that he has considered a new system for BOT.
