Jalandhar, The National Election Commission may announce the by-elections in Punjab along with the announcement of election dates in Maharashtra and Jharkhand at 3.30 pm today. By-elections are to be held in four assemblies of Punjab which fell vacant after the Lok Sabha elections, while by-elections have already been held on one seat.
These four seats were vacant in the general elections
Four assembly seats of Punjab fell vacant during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The Barnala seat of Aam Aadmi Party cabinet minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer has fallen vacant, while the Chabbewal seat in Hoshiarpur is vacant after Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal became an MP. Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Vading from Gidderbaha and former Congress Deputy CM Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa from Dera Baba Nanak seat have also won the Lok Sabha elections. Elections are to be held on all these four seats.
Elections have been held on the Jalandhar seat
By-elections were held after the general elections after the resignation of Aam Aadmi Party MLA Sheetal Angural from Jalandhar was accepted. This seat was won by Aam Aadmi Party candidate Mohinder Bhagat and he has now been made a cabinet minister in the Punjab government. The Punjab government had immediately conducted elections on this seat. This hot seat of Jalandhar was in the news due to MLA Sheetal Angural joining the BJP and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann had made it a matter of prestige. The CM was also camping in Jalandhar with his family to win this election.
The path of Congress and Aam Aadmi Party will not be easy
Due to the lack of alliance between Congress and Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab and Haryana, both the parties are facing losses. The results of Haryana were very disappointing for AAP. Now Aam Aadmi Party will have to put in a lot of effort in the by-elections in Punjab. At the same time, the position of Congress also does not seem to be stronger than before. BJP has also tightened its preparations to field its candidates on these four seats. However, the condition of Akali Dal is already weak.
After the by-elections, it is the turn of municipal elections
Panchayati elections are being held in Punjab today. If by-elections are announced immediately after these elections, then the next mission of the Punjab government will be the municipal elections. Because the municipal elections have been postponed for two years. The pace of development in cities has slowed down a lot. The ruling party may have to bear the brunt of this. Therefore, it is being claimed that the government is preparing to conduct municipal elections soon.
