Brain computer interface based gadget can read your mind, presented in CES 2025 : A gadget based on Brain Computer Interface (BCI) was presented at CES 2025. It is being claimed that it can read your mind i.e. it can decode what you are thinking. American startup Based Hardware has launched AI wearable Omi. You can hang this small device around your neck like a pendant or necklace. It can be activated by saying Hey Omi. There will be no need for a wake word on listening mode because it is constantly listening to you.
Considering it a mind reading device
A lot of work is being done on BCI for the last few years. You can also mount this small device on your head side. Some people on the internet are considering it a mind reading device, but this is not completely true at the moment because this BCI based feature will come in the future.
It is less BCI based and more AI tool
Actually it seems less BCI based and more AI tool, because it also works like Rabbit R1 and Humane Pin. It has GPT 4o and it can give personalized advice to the users. The startup has claimed that Omi can be stuck on the side of the forehead through brain interface medical tape.
Ability to translate in real time
This device can answer the questions of the users. It can summarize the conversation. It can make ToDo list and schedule meetings. It also does real time translation, that is, if someone around you is talking in another language, then it will give you its complete translation.
Data can be stored locally
One problem in terms of privacy is that Omi is always on listening mode, that is, it keeps listening to your conversation. However, the company has made sure that users can store data locally and can see where their data is going, that is why it has been kept open source.
89 US dollars i.e. 7640 rupees
The price of Omi is 89 US dollars i.e. approximately 7640 rupees. However, users will get access to the brain computer interface of this device later, currently it is only an audio only AI product and it will be shipped globally in the second quarter of 2025.
More than 250 apps on the App Store
According to the company, OMI can read brain waves in the future and can translate whatever it thinks, but this feature is not full proof for now and it can be activated in the coming time. More than 250 apps will be available on the OMI App Store. These are actually plugins.
All the features related to AI are present
If the company succeeds in activating the brain computer interface feature in the future, then perhaps this can become a game changing device, but using it only as an AI device does not make any sense. There are already many AI devices in the market which are of no special use because now all the features related to AI are present in the smartphone itself, so it is difficult for people to use one device with another device side by side.
