This study has been done by researchers from Utah University. This study found that men who had a low sperm count of less than 1.5 million per milliliter of semen had a 143 percent risk of bone and joint cancer and a 134 percent risk of testicular cancer.
Testicular cancer is most common in men and men with low sperm counts have been found to have the highest risk of developing this type of cancer. Not only this, a possible relationship has been found between low sperm count and other types of cancer such as prostate cancer.
What is oligospermia?
Oligospermia is a condition in which a man has low levels of sperm in his semen. Normally the quantity of sperm in men's semen should be at least 15 million sperm per millilitre. Men with oligospermia have a sperm count of less than 15 million per millilitre.
There can be many reasons for its occurrence. These include hormonal imbalance, genetic disorders, exposure to certain chemicals or toxins, infections and lifestyle factors such as alcohol consumption, drug use and obesity.
