TRAI has directed telecom operators to ban sending URLs, OTT Links and APKs in SMS. This step has been taken to protect users and prevent fraud. The new rule will come into effect from October 1 and registered senders will have to whitelist the links.
Will prevent fraud
TRAI changes the rules with time. Now such changes are going to happen once again. TRAI is also very cautious on the issue of user security and wants to immediately stop such things which harm mobile users. TRAI has now decided to take action against those who send messages by adding URLs. The telecom regulator has also given orders related to this to Jio, Voda, Airtel and BSNL.
TRAI told all telecom operators that they should immediately ban users sending such URLs. Also, such URLs, OTT Links and APKs should be stopped from being sent in SMS traffic. The new rule is going to be implemented from October 1 and action is being considered against users regarding this. With its help, TRAI wants to establish a secure communication system for Indian consumers.
Steps to maintain trust of users
TRAI passed an order related to this on 20 August. In this, access providers are allowed to block UTL or APK. Registered senders are allowed to whitelist links. More than 70 thousand whitelist links have been uploaded by more than 3 thousand registered senders. If someone does not upload the whitelist URL by October 1, then he will not be able to send it in SMS.
These steps are being taken by TRAI to prevent fraud and misleading SMS. TRAI has already asked users who promote with the help of mobile to whitelist the URL. These steps were taken to maintain the trust of users regarding banking and e-commerce.
