IELTS Center owner made a WhatsApp call and demanded ransom of Rs 50 lakh, threatened to cause harm if the money was not paid.A case of demanding ransom of Rs 50 lakh from a visa advisor businessman of Sultanpur Lodhi, Kapurthala has come to light. The caller from a foreign number has threatened to cause harm to the businessman and his family if the amount is not paid. However, the police of Sultanpur Lodhi police station has registered a case and started investigation.
Call came on WhatsApp, demanded extortion of Rs 50 lakh
In the complaint given to the police, the visa advisor told that he has an IELTS center in Sultanpur Lodhi. An unknown WhatsApp call came on his mobile from a foreign number at 2.30 pm on May 8. When he received the call, the caller demanded extortion money of Rs 50 lakh from him and threatened to harm him and his family members if he did not pay the money. After which he informed the police of Sultanpur Lodhi police station. The police have registered a case against the unknown and started investigation.
SP-Investigation Sarabjit Rai said that the cyber wing of the police is investigating the matter. However, the police is not ready to tell anything about the caller yet.
