12 years long research revealed, why Ganga river water does not get spoiled : Ganga river is as important from religious point of view as it is life-giving. Ganga river is mentioned in many religious texts. Ganga water is very sacred for Hindus. Ganga water never gets polluted. Ganga river originating from the Himalayas is a place of worship for Hindus. Ganga water can be stored for many months. Nothing bad will happen with this. Not only this, every year during religious festivals, millions of devotees take bath, yet no epidemic or disease spreads from it. Ganga river remains clean due to the three elements present in it. Scientists of the National Environmental Engineering and Research Institute did research on Ganga.
Ability to keep itself clean
The research revealed that Ganga water has the property of keeping itself clean. Ganga water contains a large amount of 'bacteriophages', which prevent the water of Ganga from getting polluted. This research was conducted under the 'Clean Ganga Mission' of the Central Government by NIRI researcher Dr. It was conducted under the leadership of Krishna Khairnar. For this research, Ganga was divided into three phases. The first of these is from Gaumukh to Haridwar, the second from Haridwar to Patna and the third from Patna to Gangasagar.
Samples from 50 different places
NIRI researcher Dr. Krishna Khairnar has answered this. The researchers collected samples of Ganga water and sand and soil from the river bed from 50 different places. He said that we have found that the Ganga river has the properties of purifying itself. Researchers had also collected samples during the last Kumbh Mela. We found bacteriophages in the Ganga water, which destroy the germs present in the water.
Too much oxygen
Krishna Khairnar further said that along with this, research has found that the amount of oxygen in the Ganga water is very high. The level of oxygen in Ganga water was found to be up to 20 milligrams per liter. Along with this, a phytochemical called terpene was also found. These three principles keep the Ganga water pure. Khairnar says that the water of Ganga never gets spoiled.
Available only in the Ganges River
Not only this, researchers have also found out whether these principles are present only in the Ganges River, which has the ability to purify water, or are they present in other rivers as well. For this, research was also done on the water of Yamuna and Narmada rivers. However, it came to light that the elements present in the water of the Ganges are present in very small quantities in the water of these rivers.
Research on the Ganges for 12 years
Currently Maha Kumbh 2025 is being organized in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. After reaching the Maha Kumbh, lakhs of devotees are bathing in the Ganges every day, but the water of the Ganges becomes pure only after going five kilometers away from the bathing place. The Ganges River has the power to purify itself. That is why the water of the Ganges does not get spoiled. Researchers from Nagpur have made this discovery after 12 years of hard work and research.
