The scorching heat continues in Punjab. Along with this, heatwave is also troubling people. The maximum temperature on Thursday broke the record of the last 65 years and Pathankot was the hottest at 47.8 degrees. In 1958, the maximum temperature recorded in Ludhiana was 47.9 degrees on June 17. The Meteorological Department today issued a heat wave alert for 21 districts. In this, yellow alert has been issued for 19 and orange alert for 2.
Besides, the department has also predicted light rain in 11 districts of Punjab for today. But since this will not have any effect on the temperature, there will be no respite from the scorching heat at present. These districts include Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Firozpur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda and Mansa districts.

The maximum temperature in Amritsar was 45.2 degrees (5.6 degrees above normal), Ludhiana 45.1 degrees (6.8 degrees above normal), Patiala 45.6 degrees (6.4 degrees above normal), Pathankot 46.1, Bathinda 44.0, Barnala 44.5, Faridkot recorded 46.1 degrees, Jalandhar 43.8 degrees. On the other hand, an increase of 0.9 degrees was recorded in the minimum temperature of Punjab.Due to this the mercury has become 2 degrees more than normal. The minimum mercury was recorded at 28.9 degrees in Amritsar, 28.8 in Ludhiana, 28.3 in Patiala, 27.4 in Pathankot, 28.4 in Bathinda and 26.7 degrees in Jalandhar.
Light to moderate rain expected
According to weather forecasting agency Skymet, during the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain with isolated heavy falls is possible over Konkan and Goa, North Interior Karnataka, Telangana, South Chhattisgarh and South Odisha.Whereas light to moderate rain is possible in Andhra Pradesh, Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Northeast India, South-Western Madhya Pradesh, South Gujarat and Jammu and Kashmir.
