NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore have returned to Earth from the International Space Station after nine months. After their return, there will be medical checkups, health tests at the Johnson Space Center and discussions on mission experiences. They may also have to face some problems.
NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore have returned to Earth from space after nine months. Both of them went to space in June last year. Their mission was quite challenging due to technical difficulties and changes in schedule. Due to many problems, this mission of a few days became nine months long. In such a situation, the return of 59-year-old Sunita Williams and 62-year-old Butch Wilmore to Earth was being awaited continuously. This wait ended at 3:27 am on Wednesday as per Indian time.
Carried on a Stretcher
Sunita Williams and her colleagues have returned safely to Earth. However, they will still have to undergo several important procedures. After landing on the coast of Florida, Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore were taken out of the SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule and carried on a stretcher. This is part of their initial medical examination. Staying in space for a long time affects the body of astronauts. There is a protocol to carry astronauts on a stretcher as they are unable to walk due to weak muscles.
Astronauts will reach the Space Center
Sunita and Butch have been taken to the Johnson Space Center in Houston for now. Both astronauts will stay at the center for a few days for health checkup. This is also a routine procedure after the return of astronauts. NASA doctors will do a complete checkup of them before allowing them to go home. Both of them may be allowed to go home in the next few days.
After passing the medical checkup process, both the astronauts will talk about their experiences, challenges and successes during the mission. After this, they will get time to spend with their family and friends. Spending time with family is important for the mental health of astronauts. This helps them connect with their loved ones and return to normal life back on Earth.
Before returning to Earth, Sunita Williams herself said that she was waiting to return home to meet her two dogs and family. In such a situation, it becomes easier for the astronauts to return to normal life after returning home. This also helps them prepare their mind for the next mission. According to experts, it takes several weeks for astronauts to get back to normal on Earth
