Canada wants to dominate the tech sector, for which it needs skilled tech workers. It is currently facing competition from the US. In such a situation, it has come up with a new work permit to move ahead in the tech sector, so that people can come to work there.
Canada Tech Job Visa
Canada wants skilled tech workers so that it can dominate the technology sector in the world. Regarding this, the government led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has recently announced a new work permit for certain tech companies, for which Indians will also be able to apply. LMIA will not be required for the new work permit. This will directly benefit those Indian tech workers who want to work abroad.
This new work permit has been launched under the Innovation Stream of the International Mobility Program (IMP). According to a CIC News report, the Innovation Stream is one of the four pillars of the Tech Talent Strategy. This strategy was launched in 2023 to invite skilled people to work in Canada and help Canada become a global tech leader. The salary in tech jobs in Canada is also very good.
Tech workers will get work permit without LMIA
Now some skilled foreign workers can apply for a work permit for a specific company, provided they have received a job offer from any company involved in the Global Hypergrowth Project. This includes eight companies, which have been selected by the government as industry leaders and innovators and which have great potential. Eligible employees will be able to get a work permit without Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).
What is Canada's LMIA?
LMIA is a type of document that the Canadian government asks for before issuing work permits for certain companies. This document is issued by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). In this, it is seen what effect hiring a foreign worker will have on the Canadian employment market. On the basis of LMIA, a work permit is issued for a company only when the result of the document is “positive” or “neutral”.
Who is eligible for a work permit without LMIA?
Applicants must meet certain conditions to obtain a work permit under the innovation stream:
They must have a job offer from a company involved in the Global Hypergrowth Project (GHP).
They must have a job offer in a high-skilled occupation, including positions in National Occupational Classification (NOC) Training, Education, Experience, and Responsibilities (TEER) category 0, 1, 2, or 3.
They must have the required education and experience stated in the Employment Requirements section of the NOC for the job they wish to work in.
This stream is for eligible applicants living in Canada and abroad. If the job for which the applicants have been hired falls under NOC's TEER category 0 or 1, then the process of applying for their work permit can also be faster. In such a situation, when an applicant applies to a company, he can also get information about this new work permit well.
