The proposal of 'One Nation-One Election' has been approved in the cabinet. The idea of holding assembly and Lok Sabha elections simultaneously in the country will now become easier. After the report of the committee headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind, this proposal has been approved in the cabinet. The NDA government will bring this bill in Parliament in the winter session.
Let us tell you that the committee headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind had submitted its report in March on the possibilities of One Nation One Election. According to the suggestions given in this report, as a first step, elections of Lok Sabha and state assemblies should be held simultaneously.
Now elections will be held simultaneously
The committee has further recommended that local body elections should also be held within 100 days of the Lok Sabha and state assembly elections being held simultaneously. This will enable elections at all levels to be held in a fixed time period across the country. Currently, elections of state assemblies and Lok Sabha are held separately.
Let us tell you that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been advocating One Nation One Election for a long time. PM Modi had said, I request everyone to come together to achieve the resolution of one nation one election, which is the need of the hour.
In a special conversation with Aaj Tak before the Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi had said on this issue that elections should not be held during the entire five-year term of the government. He had said, 'I always say that elections should be held only for three or four months. Politics should not happen for the entire 5 years. This will reduce the expenses incurred in managing elections.
15 political parties are opposing, 32 got support
The committee headed by former President Ramnath Kovind had contacted 62 political parties. Out of these, 32 had supported one country, one election. Whereas, 15 parties were against it. There were 15 such parties which did not give any answer.
