The United Arab Emirates has hanged two Malayalis for murder. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has informed the families of the deceased. Shahzadi, a woman from Uttar Pradesh, was also hanged in the UAE recently. Shahzadi was accused of killing a child.
Two Indian citizens have been hanged in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has confirmed this. The ministry said that the families of the deceased have been informed about the hanging. Both the convicted people were residents of Kerala state of India. Their names were Mohammed Rinash Arangilottu and Muralidharan Perumthatta Valappil. Both were convicted of murder and sentenced to death. The Supreme Court of Cassation of the United Arab Emirates also upheld the sentence. After this, both were hanged.
The UAE authorities informed the Indian Embassy on 28 February 2025 that the two had been hanged. The Embassy and the Ministry of External Affairs have said that their officials are in touch with the families of the deceased and trying to ensure their participation in the funeral. Mohammed Rinash Arangilottu, an Emirati national, and Muralidharan Perumthatta Valappil have been hanged for the murder of an Indian national.
Death sentence to Indians in UAE
Shahzadi Khan, a woman from Banda in Uttar Pradesh, was hanged in UAE on 15 February. 33-year-old Shahzadi was accused of killing a four-month-old child. She was in a Dubai jail for two years. The court had sentenced her to death four months ago. The family was informed after she was hanged. Due to this, the issue of death sentence to Indians in UAE is a topic of discussion in India.
The United Arab Emirates has the highest number of Indians facing death penalty abroad. India's Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh told the Rajya Sabha on February 13 that 29 Indians are facing death penalty in the UAE. The number has come down to 28 after the hanging of Uttar Pradesh's Shahzadi Khan in Abu Dhabi on February 15, the Ministry of External Affairs told a Delhi court on Monday.
