After more than 25 thousand coronavirus cases were recorded in Singapore in a week, the Health Minister has advised people to wear masks. Singapore has seen an almost doubling of coronavirus cases in a week. The number of patients in the hospital has also increased.
Health Minsiter of Singapore says this
Corona virus is spreading once again in the Southeast Asian country Singapore. More than 25,900 cases have been registered in the country between May 5 and 11. Health Minister Ong Ye Kung on Saturday once again advised the countrymen to wear masks. He said, ‘We are in the early part of the new wave. It is continuously increasing. So I would say that the wave may reach its peak in the next two to four weeks. He said that at present there is no plan to implement any kind of social restrictions. Corona is something we have to live with.
The number of patients in the hospital increased
Singapore's Health Ministry has reported that the number of corona cases between May 5 and 11 reached 25,900, which is almost double the number of 13,700 in the previous week. Meanwhile, the number of daily hospitalisations has increased to about 250 from 181 a week ago. The average number of cases coming into the ICU per day is three, compared to two last week.
The Health Ministry has asked public hospitals to reduce their non-urgent elective surgery cases to maintain essential hospital beds. Along with this, suitable patients have been advised to be sent home through Mobile Inpatient Care at Home. This is Singapore's alternative inpatient model that gives patients the option of being admitted in their own homes rather than in a hospital ward.
How prepared is Singapore?
Health Minister Ong has urged people most at risk of severe disease to get an extra dose of a COVID-19 vaccine if they have not received it in the past 12 months. Ong said that once the number of Covid-19 cases doubles, Singapore will have 500 patients that the healthcare system can handle. If the number of cases doubles for the second time, there will be 1,000 patients and it will be a huge burden on the hospitals.
