In such a situation, the pilot decided to take the plane back. This incident happened on 6 March 2025. 9 out of 10 toilets of Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft were blocked. Only one toilet of the business class was in working condition. Due to this, it was decided to return the plane.
Air India said that there was a 'technical problem' in flight AI126. In such a situation, the plane was returned and other alternative arrangements were made for the passengers. In its statement, the airline has cited only technical problem as the reason for the diversion, but sources claim that the flight had to return due to blockage in the toilets.
The situation worsened due to the toilet not working
A person aware of the matter said that only one toilet in the business class was working, while the other nine were closed. According to flight tracking website Flightradar24, the plane changed its route four hours and 25 minutes after crossing the coast of Greenland. The plane left Chicago at 11 am on Wednesday and landed back at 9 pm. In this way, the passengers had to travel for 10 hours without any use.
This Air India plane has a seating capacity of 342 passengers, including 303 economy seats. Not a single toilet was working in the economy. In such a situation, it became impossible for the pilot and crew to continue the journey. Air India has said that passengers have been provided full refund and free rebooking facility on ticket cancellation. There have been many reactions on social media on this incident.
