The Union Health Ministry will launch the U-WIN portal later this month, which will keep digital records of vaccination of pregnant women and children. It will work like CoWIN and is being run on experimental basis in all the states. This will make the vaccination process simple and transparent.
The Union Health Ministry is working towards increasing access to health services through the National Digital Mission. Union Health Secretary Apurva Chandra said on Friday that the online vaccine management portal U-Win will be launched later this month to keep a permanent digital record of vaccinations and medicines for more than three crore pregnant women and about 2.7 crore children born annually. He said that the success of Covin and Arogya Setu app can be gauged from the fact that it helped in carrying out more than 220 crore vaccinations across the country.
Ayushman Bharat model will be replicated
Apoorva Chandra said that the central government wants to replicate the same model through Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. This is a major scheme of the government. He said that many portals are already operating in various fields like telemedicine, telemanas, e-blood bank and efforts are being made to connect them in a single portal. Health Secretary Apoorva Chandra said about the changes being made in the National Health Claim Exchange that this will promote transparency and simplify the process of insurance claims.Insurance claims will be settled quickly and more insurance companies will be connected through the portal. People will be able to get better health services. Artificial intelligence is also being used in the field of health.
U-WIN on the lines of Co-WIN
The 'U-WIN' portal will be similar to 'Co-WIN' launched for COVID-19 vaccine management during the coronavirus pandemic. It is being piloted in all states and union territories except West Bengal and covers every vaccination program for all pregnant women and children under the Universal Immunisation Program (UIP). An electronic record of regular vaccination will be maintained.
Announcement was made in the interim budget
It was announced in the Interim Budget 2024-2025 that along with the efforts being made under 'Mission Indradhanush', 'U-WIN' will be implemented across the country to manage vaccination. This platform generates a similar 'QR' code based, digitally verifiable e-vaccination certificate like the COVID vaccination certificate,Which people can get anytime with just one click. NITI Aayog Member (Health) Dr. VK Paul said that big changes are taking place in the health sector in India. He said that a strong primary health care system is a high priority to make health care accessible in the coming times.
Vaccine will be given at the right time
According to the Health Ministry, 'U-WIN will ensure timely administration of vaccine doses by digitally recording each vaccination program under the universal immunisation program for all pregnant women and children up to the age of five.' 11 vaccines of diphtheria, measles, rubella and tetanus will be made available. This platform generates a similar 'QR' code based, digitally verifiable e-vaccination certificate like the COVID vaccination certificate, which people can get at any time with a single click.
The problem of keeping records will be solved
Officials said that the records of vaccination under UIP are currently being prepared by the personnel. Now the problem of keeping records physically will be solved. Apart from this, there is lack of awareness about the place and date of vaccination among the beneficiaries in urban areas and there is inequality in vaccination coverage in states and union territories. Another big issue is that records of vaccination are not kept in private health centres and hospitals.
