PUNBUS and PRTC Contract Workers Union in Punjab have withdrawn their decision to go on strike on Thursday 9 November. This decision has brought relief to lakhs of people traveling in daily buses. After this decision of the union, today government buses in Punjab will run like normal. Actually, the main demand of the union was accepted by the Punjab government late in the night and the related letter was issued.
Preparations were made for Chakka Jam in Punjab regarding salary increase and many other demands. The union warned that if their demands were not heeded, they would hold similar blockades in the coming days.
5% increase in salary
Amritsar Contract Union President Jodh Singh said that late in the night, the main demand of the union of 5 percent increase in salary was accepted and a letter was also issued, after which the union withdrew its decision to block the road.
What were the demands?
Demanded to end the contract with transport. 20 to 25 crores should be spent on the welfare of the government employees who are avoiding GST. Also, the kilometer scheme should be abolished and buses should be included in the roadways fleet.
