Telecommunication Act 2023 has come into force in India. According to this new law, now no citizen of India will be able to buy more than 9 SIM cards. If he violates this rule, action will be taken against him and he may have to be fined or even jailed.
There will be a fine of up to Rs 2 lakh for purchasing more than 9 SIMs
According to the new law, if you have purchased more than 9 SIMs, you may face a fine of Rs 50 thousand to Rs 2 lakh. Whereas purchasing a SIM through fraudulent means i.e. using someone else's ID will result in a jail term of 3 years. A fine of up to Rs 50 lakh will also be imposed.
A new law will replace these two laws
The Telecommunication Act will replace the 138-year-old Indian Telegraph Act. Presently the telecom sector is controlled by this law. This new law will also replace 'The Indian Wireless Telegraph Act 1933'. It will also amend the TRAI Act 1997.
Total 62 sections in Telecommunication Act
The Telecommunication Act 2023 was introduced in the Lok Sabha on December 20 last year. It was passed by the Rajya Sabha on 21 December. It was converted into law after the approval of President Draupadi Murmu. It has been implemented from June 26. There are a total of 62 sections in this law, but for now only 39 sections have been implemented.
Which sections are being implemented?
Sections 1, 2, 10 to 30, 42 to 44, 46, 47, 50 to 58, 61 and 62 of the Telecommunication Act 2023 have become effective from Wednesday. In these sections, chapters like parameters of law, public safety, national security, safety of telecommunication network, Digital Bharat Nidhi, innovation and technology development, safety of users, crime are covered.
