American astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams, who have been stranded on the space station for the past nine months, have finally returned to Earth. NASA confirmed this and said that both have return on the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft. This spacecraft has landed in Florida, USA, carrying both of them.
Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams went to space on their mission in June last year. Their Starliner spacecraft malfunctioned. In such a situation, both were stranded on the ISS for more than nine months. Now SpaceX Dragon is being used to bring them back. Both astronauts have returned to Earth on Tuesday evening as per USA timezone along with two other passengers. NASA astronaut Nick Hague and Roscosmos cosmonaut Alexander Gorbunov have also returned in the Dragon capsule.
NASA ready to welcome
Steve Stich of NASA said that Butch and Sunita have done a great job and we are excited to bring them back. Both astronauts have consistently said that they are happy in the space station. Sunita has even called it her 'happy place'. However, medical experts have expressed the fear that staying in space for a long time may have a bad effect on the health of both.
