Sukhbir Badal is Tankhaiya Karaar
Shri Akal Takht Sahib had declared Sukhbir Badal as Tankhaiya on 30 August 2024. The leaders of the opposing faction of Sukhbir Badal had questioned some religious decisions taken during the Akali-BJP coalition government between 2007 and 2017. Sukhbir Badal's punishment is still pending.
What is Tankhaiya?
According to the Sikh sect, if any Sikh does something wrong religiously, then he is declared Tankhaiya. Its decision is taken by Akal Takht Sahib, the highest Takht of the Sikhs. After being declared a Tankhaiya, the person concerned can appear before the Sikh congregation and apologize for his mistake. Apart from this, his crime is reviewed in the presence of Shri Guru Granth Sahib. Then the punishment is decided accordingly.
Demanded to announce the decision soon
Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal reached Akal Takht Sahib office. Meanwhile, he submitted a written letter to Singh Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh and requested that the religious punishment to be imposed on him be announced soon.
Sukhbir Badal has said in his letter that Akal Takht Sahib is supreme for every Sikh and he is ready to follow every order of Akal Takht. He further wrote that despite two and a half months having passed, he has not been given religious punishment.
