There has been a suicide attack on a military camp of the Pakistani army in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Many soldiers are reported to have been killed in this attack. Police said that suicide bombers drove two cars filled with explosives inside the military camp. After this, sounds of explosions were heard.
A huge explosion has taken place in a military camp located in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. A large number of Pakistani soldiers are reported to have been killed in this explosion. Police have said that on Tuesday evening, two suicide bombers of a terrorist group rammed two cars loaded with explosives into a military complex in northwestern Pakistan, causing huge explosions. The Pakistani army has not yet confirmed the number of casualties. However, there are reports of six terrorists and 15 civilians being killed.
Terrorists entered the military camp with a car full of explosives
In the report, a senior district police officer said on the condition of anonymity, "Suicide bombers rammed two cars loaded with explosives into the entrance of Bannu Cantonment, causing huge explosions...after which several terrorists tried to enter the complex." He said, "Security forces present at the spot encountered them. Initial reports have confirmed that four terrorists have been killed."
Pakistani army camp is close to Afghanistan
Bannu, a district in Pakistan's restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, borders the country's former self-ruled tribal areas and is close to Afghanistan. "The firing is still going on and security forces are chasing the remaining attackers," the official said.
Hafiz Gul Bahadur group claimed responsibility
The Hafiz Gul Bahadur armed group, which has been actively supporting the Afghan Taliban in its war against the US-led NATO coalition since 2001, has claimed responsibility for the attack. "Our fighters reached and took control of an important target," the group said in a statement. However, the group did not give any further details.
Injured admitted to hospital
District Headquarters Hospital spokesman Numan Khattab said those injured in the incident have been brought to the hospital for treatment. The Inter Services Public Relations has not yet commented on the incident, while a statement by the office of KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur condemned the "blast" in Bannu district.
Bannu Cantonment has been attacked earlier as well
Last year in July 2024, eight soldiers were killed in a terrorist attack targeting Bannu Cantonment, while 10 terrorists were killed in retaliation. The attack was carried out by the banned Afghanistan-based Hafiz Gul Bahadur group. Pakistan has recently witnessed a rise in terrorist activities, especially in KP and Balochistan, after the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022.
