Know the Big Myths related to Ramadan and Their Truth: The holy month of Ramadan is the ninth month according to the Islamic calendar. Ramadan is about pleasing Allah and asking for forgiveness. It is also called month-e-Ramadan. The holy month of Ramadan has started. In this month, all Muslims around the world keep fast from morning to evening. This month is determined by looking at the moon.It is a month of blessings, humility, happiness and gratitude. Fasting during Ramadan is considered mandatory for all Muslims. However, Muslims may choose not to fast in certain circumstances. There are many misconceptions among people regarding the fasting of Ramadan. Let us know about them...

Myth: Ramadan means only abstinence from food and drink

Truth: Ramadan does not just mean abstaining from food and drink. It is about abstaining from sins, wrong behaviour, wrongdoings, physical relations, smoking and much more. The purpose of fasting in Ramadan is to control oneself. If you just abstain from food and drink but do not give up bad habits, then there is no point in fasting.

Myth: Ramadan fasting is mandatory for everyone

Truth: Although fasting in Ramadan is mandatory for all Muslims, there are some people who are exempted from fasting. Like pregnant and lactating women, old and sick people, diabetic and heart patients, menstruating women, people who are travelling for essential reasons.

Myth: Ramadan fasting is harmful for health

Truth: There is no scientific evidence that fasting is not good for healthy people. Only people with any chronic disease should avoid fasting.

Myth: The date of Ramzan is same and does not change.

Truth: All the festivals of Muslims are based on the moon. Since Muslims follow the lunar calendar, the month of Ramadan comes 10 days earlier every year. Therefore, it is wrong to say that the date of Ramadan is the same every year.

Myth: Brushing is not allowed during fasting in Ramadan

Truth: Brushing your teeth never breaks the fast. There is no abstinence from brushing teeth during Ramadan.

Myth: Swallowing saliva is not allowed during fasting.

Fact: Swallowing saliva is a natural process. Swallowing saliva during fasting does not break the fast. Fasting prevents you from consuming any external substance, not just something that already exists.

Myth: Eating anything by mistake breaks the fast.

Truth: Eating by mistake does not break the fast. Provided that you stop eating after the mistake is made. If you have accidentally eaten something, you can rinse and continue the fast.

Myth: Just smoking doesn't break your fast

Fact: Those who think that smoking will not break the fast are wrong. While inhaling a cigarette, cigar or vape, the elements pass through the stomach and reach the lungs, hence smoking definitely breaks the fast. Smoking is prohibited in Islam.

Myth: Those fasting should avoid working

Fact: It is good to take rest during fasting because this way you can concentrate on the Holy Quran and prayers. Working or not working during Ramadan is entirely an individual's choice.

Myth: Taking injections for health breaks the fast.

Truth: If taking the injection is necessary for your health then it will not break the fast. However, taking glucose through injection can break the fast.

Myth: Use of perfume is not allowed in Ramadan

Fact: Wearing perfume does not break your fast. Perfume is applied on the outer body. This has nothing to do with breaking the fast.

Myth: Injury and bleeding invalidate the fast.

Fact: No, bleeding does not break your fast unless it is menstrual blood. Even if you get hurt and start bleeding, you can continue the fast.
