PM's convoy was stopped on January 5
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's convoy was stuck on a flyover at Hussainiwala in Punjab's Firozpur on January 5, 2022. The Prime Minister was going for a rally in Firozpur, where in view of the elections, he was to lay the foundation stone of several projects costing more than Rs 42,000 crore.
But his rally had to be postponed. The Prime Minister's convoy was passing through Hussainiwala, 30 km from the National Martyrs Memorial, where some protesters were protesting and blocked the flyover. After reaching Bathinda's Bhisiana Airport, PM Modi had said - "Thank your Chief Minister, I have returned alive." After which this matter increased a lot. This flyover was a short distance from the Hussainiwala border of India-Pakistan.
PM's convoy was stuck for 20 minutes
This was considered a major lapse in the PM's security. The Prime Minister's convoy was stuck for about 20 minutes. The then Channi government had claimed that the PM's route had been changed at the end, while the BJP had made serious allegations against the Congress.
Name appeared in the investigation report
The then Chief Secretary Anirudh Tiwari and DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyay were also named accused in the report of the inquiry committee constituted by the Supreme Court regarding negligence in the security of the Prime Minister in Ferozepur. The committee had submitted the report to the Supreme Court and the government 8 months ago in August 2022. Based on this report, the Center had written a letter to the Punjab government in September 2022 to take action against the guilty officials. Despite 6 months having passed, no action has been taken in this matter.
Earlier, SSP Harmandeep Hans was held responsible for the entire incident. The committee's report revealed the negligence of the then Chief Secretary and DGP. It was also said that whatever responsibilities the officers had, they could not discharge them properly. IG (SPG) RR Bhagat had informed the police officers about the situation in time, but despite this, no action was taken in time.
