PM Modi, who arrived on a state visit to Mauritius, has been given a grand and historic welcome. When the Indian Prime Minister landed at the airport, Mauritius PM Navinchandra Ramgoolam and his cabinet colleagues were present to welcome him. PM Modi will be the chief guest at the National Day celebrations of Mauritius.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived on a two-day state visit to Mauritius, where he was given a historic welcome. Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam was present with his entire cabinet to receive PM Modi. Along with this, MPs, political parties as well as religious leaders were also present. PM Modi will attend the national day celebrations of the island country as the chief guest and will hold a meeting with the top leadership of the country. On landing at the airport, his Mauritian counterpart Navin Ramgoolam welcomed Prime Minister Modi by garlanding him.
Many agreements will be signed between the two countries
Apart from Ramgoolam, Mauritius' Deputy Prime Minister, Chief Justice, Speaker of the National Assembly, Opposition Leader, Finance Minister and Cabinet Secretary were also present to welcome the Indian leader. PM Modi's visit is taking place at the invitation of Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam. During the visit, both the countries will sign several agreements for cooperation in the areas of capacity building, trade and combating cross-border financial crimes.
Visit after 10 years
During the visit, PM Modi will meet the President of Mauritius, hold a meeting with the Prime Minister and also hold meetings with senior dignitaries and leaders of political parties of the island nation. He will also interact with members of the Indian community. PM Modi has arrived in Mauritius after 10 years. Earlier, he visited the country in 2015.
PM Modi's visit under SAGAR Vision
Before leaving for Mauritius, PM Modi said in a statement, 'I look forward to the opportunity to engage with the Mauritian leadership to strengthen our enduring friendship and enhance our partnership in all its aspects for the progress and prosperity of our people as well as security and development in the Indian Ocean region under our 'SAGAR Vision'. 'SAGAR' stands for 'Security and Growth for All in the Region'.
India's strength will be seen in Mauritius's National Day
A contingent of Indian Armed Forces, a warship of Indian Navy and Akash Ganga 'Skydiving Team' of Indian Air Force are participating in the (Mauritius National Day) celebrations. Modi said, Mauritius is a close maritime neighbour in the Indian Ocean, a major partner and the gateway to the African continent. We are connected to each other by history, geography and culture. He said, "Deep mutual trust, shared belief in the values of democracy and pride in our diversity are our strengths." The Prime Minister said that the close and historical ties between the people of the two countries are a source of shared pride.
