It has become difficult to travel in government buses in Punjab from today because bus drivers and conductors will accommodate only as many passengers as there are seats in the buses. In such a situation, the remaining passengers will have to wait for another bus. Actually, Punjab Roadways and PRTC are opposing the hit and run law of the central government. They don't want to take any risk because of the hit and run law.
Earlier, roadways employees used to carry more than 100 passengers, but now this new announcement has been made by PRTC Contact Worker Union regarding their demands.
Three days strike in February
In this protest, depot chiefs Satnam Singh, Shamsher Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Jagtar Singh said that they are fed up with the hostile policies of the Punjab government towards the employees because the government is not thinking about them. Along with this, they have also decided to protest by gheraoing the Chief Minister of Punjab on the occasion of Republic Day on 26th January.
They have also warned that if their demands are not met, they will stage a dharna at the headquarters from February and a rally will be held on 7th February mobilizing the employees and a 3-day strike will be held on 13th, 14th and 15th February.
The decision came into effect from today
From today, passengers will be seated in buses according to the number of 52 seats. This decision will be implemented by the union from January 23. Governments changed from time to time in Punjab, but no government resolved the demands of the transport department employees.
The scheme costs Rs 3.5 crores
At the same time, the government is incurring huge losses due to free travel of women in Punjab. PRTC will give the money of free bus scheme to the government. And Punjab Roadways has to pay. The government pays about Rs 350 crore annually to the government transport companies in return for free bus service and currently the transport companies owe crores of rupees to the government.
