Campaigning for Jalandhar Municipal Corporation elections is in full swing by all parties. Only two days are left for voting and in most of the wards, AAP candidates seem to have an upper hand. Because even though AAP does not have as many old faces as Congress-BJP, the party has the full strength to win the elections. After winning the Municipal Corporation elections, whoever becomes the new mayor, his team will face five big challenges, which they will have to overcome.
Garbage dumps
If the biggest problem Jalandhar residents have faced in the city is the garbage dumped everywhere. People have to face problems due to garbage lifting and garbage dumping. The challenge before the new mayor will be to solve this problem. Because sometimes garbage lifting is not done for many days, due to which huge heaps of garbage are formed in the city. Which is one of the biggest problems of the city residents. Apart from this, the mountain of garbage in Wariana has been growing bigger for the last several years. Some solution will also have to be found for this.
Problem due to water logging
Even though efforts are being made to make Jalandhar a smart city, but during monsoon rains, all these claims of a smart city drown every time. Because every time the problem of water logging is seen in the city. The roads of the city get filled with water and vehicles start floating and like every time headlines like 'Jalandhar under water' run on the front page of newspapers and channels. Solving this problem will be the biggest challenge.
Problem of sewerage and water
The problem of sewerage also comes to the fore during the rainy season. Due to overflow of sewerage, the residents of the area have to face problems and the same sewerage water then comes in their taps. Due to which they are forced to buy water from the market. In the last monsoon season, a lot of anger was also seen among the people regarding this. Because due to dirty water, the 2-year-old son of a person named Rajesh died.
Fear of stray dogs
The fear of stray dogs still lives in the hearts of people in the city. Recently, a 65-year-old woman was bitten by 7 to 8 dogs. Due to which the woman had to be admitted to the Civil Hospital. The Municipal Corporation has not been able to control the stray dogs. Due to which people are still afraid to go to many areas during the day and night.
Problem of street lights
In Jalandhar, the Smart City Company had installed more than 72 thousand LED street lights by spending Rs 58 crore, but many of these lights are lying closed. These lights are not being maintained and the Smart City Company is not being paid for maintenance. Street lights in many areas of the city have been out of order for a long time and due to darkness, people have trouble commuting at night.
