On the occasion of International Women's Day on March 8, Central Railway has taken a unique step. Vande Bharat Express (train number 22223) was operated entirely by women staff. This high-speed train runs from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to Shirdi. For the first time, the loco pilot, assistant loco pilot, train manager, ticket checker and catering staff of this train were all women.
Swapnil Neela, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Central Railway, described the occasion as a proud one. He said, "Indian Railways has always worked towards creating opportunities for women. In line with our commitment to empower women, today on International Women's Day, we are proud to have the CSMT-Shirdi Vande Bharat Express operated entirely by women staff." He said that this initiative is not limited to just passenger trains. We have also ensured that our freight trains are also operated by women.
Railways called it a historic moment
