Recently, new IMEI rules have been implemented by the Government of India. To deal with telecom fraud, the National Portal of India has disconnected more than 3.4 crore mobile phones and 3.19 lakh IMEI numbers have been blocked. This action has been taken to prevent cyber crime.
Samchar Sathi is helpful for citizens
Giving information, Dr. Chandrashekhar Pemmasani said that the department starts investigating suspected fraud complaints immediately after receiving them. After that, the wrong numbers found in the investigation are blocked. The Department of Telecommunications uses crowd-sourced data for its investigation, so that any kind of misuse of telecom resources can be prevented. Citizens also get the facility to report suspected fraudulent communications on the government's Sanchar Sathi portal.
UCC time limit reduced to 5 days
He further said that with the help of AI (Artificial Intelligence) Big Data, about 17 lakh WhatsApp numbers were blocked. Along with that, the time limit for taking action against unregistered senders by the access provider regarding Unsolicited Commercial Communication (UCC) has also been reduced from 30 days to 5 days.
Those sending more than 20 thousand bulk messages blocked
Minister of State Dr. Pemmasani Chandrasekhar said that to ensure strict action against those sending UCC, the criteria has been revised and made more stringent than before. Through this 'Sanchar Sathi Initiative', those sending more than 20,000 bulk SMS have also been blacklisted.
